Getting Started in your New
Home Business

Congratulations on your decision to start your own home business! The rewards of
working at home are wonderful and with a little organization, patience and
committment your new home business will be a great success!
You should designate a part of your home to be used strictly for business
purposes. A spare bedroom would be the ideal thing! If a spare room is not an
option, designate a corner of your den, kitchen or bedroom. Your business space
will be your home office, allow plenty of room for your computer, filing system,
product space and supplies.
Set a schedule that you will work your business. This is a must! Just because
you are now working at home, does not mean that you are available to your
business 24/7! That defeats the purpose of working from home. Think of your home
business as a real brick & mortar business - set strict hours you will work!
Be sure your customers know what your business hours are!
Open a separate checking account for your business transactions. You need to
keep your personal and business money separate - if you are using one checking
account for business and personal use it will be hard for you to track your
profits. Use your business account to pay for your orders and any other expenses
that are related to your business. If you want to spend your profit, withdraw it
from your business account and deposit it into your personal account - write
yourself a paycheck!
Be sure your family understands that you are running a business and you need
their support! When mommy is working the kids need to understand that just
because you are home does not mean you can run to their every need - unless of
course it's a dire emergency! It's a good idea to work your business during
school hours when you won't be disturbed.
Get yourself organized with your housework - get up an hour before anyone else
does and take care of the housework - last night's dishes, a couple of loads of
laundry etc. Better yet, if your kids are old enough to help out - assign them
chores to do after school.
Check with your local tax agency to get the necessary tax id to operate your
home business. Some of the major home business companies take care of the taxes
for you, but the smaller one's do not. Find out what tax liabilities you have
for your particular state.
Here's to your success!
